Participants of this session will learn the 4 key components to implement restorative school culture to address discipline challenges for students of color. Site leaders will be taught strategies to transform teachers’ mind-set from “fixed to growth” to increase student learning and decrease negative discipline encounters which leads to in-school and out of school suspensions for black and brown boys. Concrete examples will be provided for immediate implementation back at the schools. Small group practice of schoolwide and classroom scenarios will allow the participants to practice how culture and race are integral components of implicit bias when it comes to addressing discipline issues with students of color. In addition, each attendee will be provided a culturally conscious self-assessment survey to examine positive prevention approaches to support the learning and behavior of struggling students.
